From May 3 00Z through May 11 00Z a persistent trough/rigde pattern persisted across the
United States. Several shortwaves and jetstreaks migrated through the base of the trough during the
period resulting in severe thunderstorm development on a daily basis.

Tropospheric wind shear is illustrated over tornado alley during the period by wind barbs.
