Wave Cloud in Central Colorado on 8 January 2002: A wave cloud developed east of the Rocky Mountains on 8 January 2002. The western edge of the cloud does not change location throughout the animation. The cloud forms in the ascending branch of a wave created by the mountains. The clear region west of the wave cloud indicates descending air.

Weather conditions during the Santa Ana (2003): Record-breaking wildfires were fuled by Santa Ana winds in October 2003. Fires brokeout in southern California in the Los Angeles Basin and near San Diego. Animations of sea level pressure show the strong pressure gradient during the event and visible satellite imagery shows the smoke being blown offshore by the Santa Anas

Edition 1 - Santa Ana winds in December 2000: A strong Santa Ana windstorm developed in December 2000 as a high-pressure system strengthened over the Great Basin. Note that as the high develops over the Great Basin, winds are from the northeast in southern California. The winds reached over 100 mph in Freemont Canyon.
