Chapter 2

  • p 112 Question 3: Data line of 850 mb, temperature value should be "5" not "50".
  • p 112 Question 3: Data line of 700 mb, temperature value should be -6 (not -9); dewpoint value should be -9 (not -6).

Chapter 3

  • p 58, Figure 3.5: the code for heights lists that the last 3 digits are used for the altitude on the 850 mb map, but the map on pe 59 (Figure 3.6) uses the first 3 instead.

Chapter 9

  • p 175, On-line 9.1 lines 15-16 should read "These storms can produce up to 2 to 5 inches of snowfall..." (not 6 to 8 inches as listed in text)

Chapter 12

  • Figure 12D p234: Caption should read "Daily snowfall totals at Buffalo, New york, during the Christmas snowstorm of 2001." (not 2002) corrected in second printing of edition 1

Chapter 17

  • Figure 17.15 p 329: color coding on radar in incorrect; light green color should be blue, light blue color should be yellow, orange color should be red

Chapter 18

  • Figure 18.3 p 340: color coding on radar in incorrect; light green color should be blue, light blue color should be yellow, orange color should be red

Chapter 22

  • Figure 22.5B: should state "ENSO" instead of El "Niño"

Chapter 26

  • p 548, first full paragraph temperatures units incorrect: 118°F (48°F) should be 118°F (48°C)
  • p. 539, Col 2: Definitions for "Heat Advisory" and "Excessive Heat Warning" are contradictory to Appendix D. Both definitions have been changed by the NWS. Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Warning criterion are geographically dependent and therefore no one universal definition applies to every location in the United States.

Appendix D

  • Definitions for "Heat Advisory" and "Excessive Heat Warning" have been updated, see Chapter 26 above.
