Maps of apparent temperature during the heat wave of July 2001. Higher apparent temperatures are red in
color. The most intense heat fluctuates with the diurnal cycle of solar heating, and moves east with
a bull’s eye of 120° F forming over the Chicago - Milwaukee region on 13 July.
