Water vapor satellite imagery from 7 to 10 January 1998 clearly shows the polar and subtropical jetstreams (the elongated boundary between dark and bright regions). The interaction of these jetstreams, coupled with the transport of moisture to southeastern Canada created record amounts of freezing precipitation throughout the region.
