Forecasting and Simulating Severe Weather

Online 4.1: Uncertainties in Numerical Prediction Models

Forecasts of Sea Level Pressure - The animation is comprised of daily forecasts of sea level pressure valid on 02/04/2007, starting on 01/28/2007. The color coding indicates values of sea level pressure in millibars with lower pressure being cool colors (blue) and higher pressure in warm colors (red). Note the slight variations in the day-to-day forecast for the sea level pressure values. In spite of the variations, persistent low pressure is located over eastern Canada and the North Atlantic with higher pressure found over the central United States.
